Day 2 (which is actually still Day 1)

So basically this jet lag is ridiculous. I keep thinking that this morning was yesterday.

First thing this morning after it was late enough to go outside, I took a walk around the lake. So pristine this lake – absolutely clear water.. There’s no froth or pollen floating on the surface, you can see strait to the bottom. There are ducks and other birds hopping around. Still a very sparse amount of people, but perhaps this is just a lowly populated country.

I figured out how to get to town making sure not to lose my way by following the rail tracks. I didn’t feel quite ready to take the train yet, so I just walked. There was a promising looking bakery/coffee shop along the way and I was definitely not let down. Everyone in a store greets you with the word “Hey” (Hej) – which sounds so informal to me… but its fun to make the word Hey sound authentic. I asked for hot tea in the shop and the lady showed me a box of bagged Lipton teas like here in the states. I thought...Ok, this is a cheap place. Then she said “we also have loose teas over there” …definitely more my style. There were six tins with names hand-written in Swedish, but the first one I smelled was delicious. I fixed the tea myself and also ordered a Cinnamon bun. Those things together cost me 30 Kroners (Crowns) which is about $4.20. I was so happy about the tea and bun that I drew a picture of myself embracing birds holding onto a cinnamon bun and tea strainer. The new national emblem of Sweden.

There is an island here which is composed of a labyrinth of cobblestone walkways called Gamla Stan (Olde Town). The streets are lined with shops which I can only guess are for tourists... There were shops selling Viking memorabilia and hand made wooden earings and many woolen goods. Took the train back home and painted some pictures. I’m keeping myself awake so that maybe I can wake up later in the day tomorrow.

jessica- the best way over the jet lag is to force your self to live on the right schedule. so when u wake at 3am make yourself lay down and try to sleep.

Which made me remember my first 'loose tea' experience with you in Chinatown!

By the way, I take one of the two seats at the front of the plane to avoid the 'baby aisle' ;-)

Bye Jess!

Did you really draw the picture of the girl w/ the bird and the bun??? Dad and I have a bet. I have heard that alot of people vacation in the summer months but I didn't think it would be a ghost town. AND, I remember you saying that you were going to get upgraded on your flight over...great postulating. XOXOXO Mom

Jessy-Coo, My heart is with you. Thank you for the wonderful comment about being a family. I’m honored to be yours. I know you’re just getting settled down and then watch out, you’re going to start getting your feet wet. You better get some goulashes so your feet don’t get soaked!

I bought 4 gallons of paint yesterday but it looks like you've got my favorite shade of green.

Walking in the sun is a good cure for jet lag.

I know you like to play with your signatures in your art, but is that Picasso written there?
